The blood bank is another division of the king Chulalongkorn hospital. It was established in 1953. It was called the blood room, located at SupaChandrabos, Gynecology Department. It is responsible for providing blood donations, identifying blood types and routine lab and blood components for patients. Later in 1958, the blood room was appointed as a blood unit and relocated to Napaporn Prapa Building.

1967 Relocated to SupaChandrabos Building , gynecology Department. 

1970 Relocated to Rabiab Kunakasem Building.

1980 The blood unit was upgraded to the Blood Bank Division. 

1996 – 1997 The Blood Bank Division was upgraded to the Blood Bank Department.

2016 – present Located at Bhumisirimangalanusorn Building, 3rd Floor , Zone B. 

The Blood Bank department, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital is now operating as a blood-related laboratory by Thai Red Cross supervision under Thai law. We are responsible for the blood donation service and the routine lab and medical laboratory tests. Furthermore, there is treatment using a blood cell separator. Our services are for in-patients and out-patients. We operate 24 hours non-stop for the benefit of patients and convenience of medical treatment. It includes advice about laboratory tests for doctors, customers and visitors.

Mission

The Blood Bank department continues to contribute to producing medical graduates, pathologists and hematologists with great quality and potential. Their abilities are equivalent to those of top universities in this country and overseas. There are researchers that support study and the service of the department. We facilitate laboratory services with quality that is recognized nationally and internationally.

Services

The Blood bank services are as shown below:

  1. Routine lab.
  2. Special lab.
  3. A blood letting lab, apheresis and collecting peripheral blood stem cells. 

The Blood banks principle aim is to give a quality service, continually accredited by the Medical standard  ISO 15189, ISO 15190 from the Bureau of Laboratory quality standards, Department of Medical Science, Ministry of Public Health from 2010 until present. We  received a Bronze award “Alert Telecar” from the Lean in Healthcare project under the blood banks department plan to reduce routine lab time for massive blood loss patients in an emergency room.
