Providing Obstetrics and Gynecology medical service and
producing knowledgeable graduates and obstetricians.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established alongside the Faculty of Medicine, The King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in 1947. In the past, it was called “Obstetrics and Gynecology Division” and they organized the Obstetrics and Gynecology subjects for 5^th and 6^th year Medical Students for the previous Medical Curriculum Program.

In 1962, due to increasing numbers of professors, it was divided into 5 fields in order to organize classes for 5 groups of medical students according to their department i.e. antenatal care, in-patient care, family planning, delivery room, emergency room and operating theatre. It was for convenience, more efficiency in small classes and for practicing clinical skills after attending lectures.

Furthermore, the department was incorporated with the obstetrics and gynecology organization (Later on, it was upgraded to the Royal Thai College of obstetrics and gynecology) and the Medical Council of Thailand began its residency training program to become a medical specialist in obstetrics and gynecology in 1971.  Additionally, there is more fellowship training in many fields added since 1997 to increase the number of medical specialists in obstetrics and gynecology because of growth in the healthcare industry and more demand for medical services in a complex society.
