of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital


General dental services and specialized dentistry according to professional safe, clean and sterile standards.

The Dental department of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society, had instituted since 1919 by Dr. H. Rek Day and Phra Arthitthayakhom as the first co-founder. They were the only two dentists who provided dental services during that time. Later, in 1947, the dental department was combined intothe surgery department of the hospital. Dr. Aree Simarak, a dentist, was appointed as the head of dental department. Later, The independent section of dental department was set up as Dental center of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Dr. Sawang Terayanon, a dentist, was appointed as the head of dental center.

After the newly out-patient building was established named “Chulabhorn building”, Dental center was moved and started dental services for an increasing number of out-patients in Chulabhorn Building with support from Lieutenant Wiboon Suwikrom, a dentist, as the head of the center. Later in 1984, the collaboration with the relief officers along the Thai border of the country, the oral healthcare and treatment were provided and distributed in the form of mobile dental service to those patients in need.

“Bhor Por Ror Building”, newly main out-patient building was completely constructed and opened for medical service in 1989. Dental center was then  moved to Bhor Por Ror Building located on the 12th Floor and to become the dental center of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital as the tertiary medical center. 

From January 2018 until now, the dental center was renovated and relocated on the 17th Floor of Bhor Por Ror Building to obtain well-equipped facilities to perform standard oral healthcare and treatment in all specialties adopting all kinds of patients including out-patient and in-patient consulted within the hospital and referred from other dental institutions for benefits of the patients of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

Award and Achievement

1. Providing tools for patients suffering from snoring. Dentist Premthip Chalidapong from the Faculty of Dentistry, Prince of Songkla University served as the volunteer dentist.

2. Collaboration between the dental center and plastic surgery and enhancement units, the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and the Center of Her Royal Highness Maha Jakri Sirindhorn in correcting facial and skull deformities by providing tools and orthodontics treatment to patients with a cleft lip and palate.

3. The Project of Wisdom Tooth Surgery to 100 patients in honor of King Maha Vajiralongkorn Badinthawarangkun, the patron of the Thai Red Cross Society.

Vision

Dental center provides oral healthcare and dental treatment for patients receiving tertiary care and patients with complex systemic disease in general and specialized dentistry on the basis of patient safety and dental professional competency.

Mission

  1. Provide comprehensive dental treatment for out-patients
  2. Take part in multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive oral care for patients requiring dental treatment in related with medical consultation from various medical specialists.
  3. Develop modern dental innovation in collaboration with other medical departments to improve dental service potential and quality of life of disease-specific patients.
  4. Provide dental healthcare for King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital health personnel and their families. 
  5. In Cooperation between our dental center and Department of Oral Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Chulalongkorn University, in oral surgery clinical practice and comprehensive care for patients in tertiary hospital setting for 4th , 5th and 6th year dental students.

Services

1. Provide general and specialized dental services for general patients.

2. Provide comprehensive oral care for patients requiring dental treatment in related with medical consultation from specialized physicians; mainly from Medicine department, Division of Plastic and reconstructive surgery of Surgery department, Otolaryngology department, Orthopaedics department and Radiology department. 

Patients considered requiring urgency and necessary treatment prior to medical treatment

  • Pre-radiotherapy in head and neck cancer patients
  • Pre-operative treatment for cardiac surgery and prosthetic valve transplant
  • Pre-operative treatment for organ transplant prior to immunosuppressive drugs
  • Pre-treatment for bone cancer and osteoporosis with antiresorptive agents
  • Pre-treatment for hematologic disorders and cancer
  • Patients with suspected infective endocarditis
  • Patients with suspected odontogenic cause of head and neck infection
  • Patients with evidence of sleep disorder
  • Patients with craniofacial deformities (Patients with cleft lip and/or cleft palate) etc.

3. Provide comprehensive dental services for the geriatric patients and those with special cares in need.
